ASUU STRIKE
ASUU has been on strike for sometime now,
students have been at home for some time now. Many people are of the opinion
that the strike should be called off, but I am of the opinion that they should
continue; infact I even want the strike to go on for a whole year
if possible. You might be asking why? Why? Because the government has to sit
up, they need to look into the educational standard of Nigerian Universities.
Nigeria is a country wherein schools go through the students not students going
through the schools. Students can spend years in school and end up knowing
nothing. They might be theoritically balanced but practically imbalanced. How
can a so-called computer engineer when given a computer be dumb-founded, a doctor
threaten a patient or not care about lives. The reason is because many of them
were not thought the ethics of their career or profession due to lack of sound
teachings.
The Nigeria Government needs to invest a
lot into our Universities, they need to equip the Universities. We want a
change. We need to see quality, up to standard Labs, committed lecturers:
lecturers are not committed because they are not well paid.
I
wonder why some parents are of the opinion that the strike must be called of. Many
at times, parents use school as an opportunity to get rid of their children, that’s
why they send them to boarding schools forgetting that your children are your
responsibility. Let me ask a question: if the strike is called off, and there is
no development in the Nigerian school system, should schools resume? Do you
prefer poor and low educational system where your kids come out half baked?
what Who will you blame: the Universities’ authorities or yourself?. Isn’t it
time we stand up and make lasting decision for generations unborn? How long can
continue with a system that never produces students that can compete with the
colleagues from other advanced countries? We either go for the change or stick
with the imbalance.
We don’t
need to send our kids to Ghana or fly them abroad for quality Education, we are
Nigerians, The Giant of Africa, we must strive to be the Best. We are going to
be 53years Oct 1st, if the Government doesn’t look into the system
of education, I don’t see any reason to celebrate Independence because we are
living below our potentials, endowments and standards.
ASUU
continue the strike. If the Government doesn’t want to do something, they won’t
have peace.
